From time to time Trahern Kennels does have older puppies or adults available to pet homes. If you are interested in a puppy or older dog please let us know as we might know of other breeders who might have something available. We also do breeders terms with reliable homes only with some of our older stock.
With all our adult dogs we do give you a two week trial with them so that you can see if they will fit into the family home. We generally have not had trouble with older dogs moving into new homes. The cost of them will include their pedigree as well (conditions apply * exception is a dog on breeders terms).
What we want to know when you contact us
1. Have you owned a Bull Terrier before
2. What colour and sex are you after
3. What state and country are you from
4. Do you intend on breeding or showing or is the dog just a pet.
5. What other dogs do you currently own and their sex and breed
6. Please provide your telephone contact information.
We want to make sure we match the right dog to the family.
Please include the above questions/answers in your email.
PUPPIES PURCHASED WITHIN AUSTRALIA
Within Australia - The cost of our 8 week old puppies is now $1000 (not negotiable), this includes their pedigree (3 generation), first vaccination, worming and microchip. Our price is for a PET ONLY, if you wish to show or breed it will not alter the price of an 8 week old puppy. We just cannot guarantee that the 8 week old puppy will become a show prospect 100%.
We have had to put up our price up as our costs to do this are just getting too expensive and we cannot keep absorbing the cost.
We will also provide you with a folder with breed and other information. We are also available for advice after you have your puppy. Currently prices across Australia range from $900 to $1500 for an 8 week old puppy. We feel we are more than fair with our prices. It costs alot of money upfront to to mate a bitch, and look after the resultant puppies and yes 1 puppy is a litter ( a very expensive one at that) and we are forever out of pocket. To be honest if we were to be within costs we really should be charging $2000 for a local bred puppy. So please do not complain.
If you feel your happier buying a cheaper puppy from a backyard breeder then read my article and make that decision again.
The cost of a puppy might seem like a lot to some people due to seeing adverts in the paper for less. We have set up a page specifically to help you understand why our puppies cost more and why a back yard breeders cost less. Lets put it this way pay $1000 and divide that by the average of ten years a bully lives. That means your dog cost you $100 a year in purchase. Buy from a backyard breeder - pay $600 - $800(for a dog that doesn't have papers) that dog costs you $60 - $80 a year and to make matters worse you only have their word that its pure, no papers, no nothing to tell you that your dog is a real McCoy. So when you look at it like that breeders then don't charge the earth, its backyarders who are charging high prices for impostors. In all honesty its no different to going to the Rspca and taking a gamble on what they've got for sale for less. Unless the backyarder can provide original pedigree papers for the parents for you to sight DON'T BELIEVE IT. Just our opinion.
We've had to say this cause we've heard MANY complaints from buyers of these dubious so called purebred who have regrets and are stuck with a mongrel for the next ten years instead of paying a bit more. They thought they were getting the same deal and saving some money. Thats why you need to do your homework a bit more.

PUPPIES PURCHASED FOR EXPORT
We do export but only to approved homes and countries. Our Export puppies/dogs
cost minimum $2000 (Australian). This is non negotiable as well as it
costs us money to run on these dogs/puppies at our expense prior to them being
able to be exported to their new homes.
It is an SA Canine Association ruling that puppies can only be exported at a
minimum of 12
weeks of age. Therefore we have to keep them for 4-6 weeks longer then
usual. The extra cost helps us cover the second vaccination, export
pedigree (that alone has gone up to $95) and fees associated with keeping the pup for an extra 4-6 weeks,
boarding costs and any
running around we need to do for you and the puppy. Rabies vaccination is
not included in the cost so that is an added expense if required for your
country. If your country requires certain blood work then that
will be your cost. We feel this is more than reasonable considering the
overheads that we are continually absorbing.
People contact us because they are after the Real McCoy - a Bull Terrier who is a Bull Terrier.
Trahern Kennels does NOT take any deposit until the puppies are born.
They will be available for viewing once they are vaccinated and microchipped at 6 weeks of age.
As the breeder we will have first choice of the litter. If the stud owner wants a pup then they will have second choice of the litter. Sometimes other breeders will have an interest in a litter too.
Just because we have taken the pick ahead of others does NOT mean there is nothing good left. What you see as beauty might not be what we see as beauty etc and vice versa. We keep what is required for our breeding program.
We keep a list of puppy inquiries - who wants what colour and sex, if flexible in sex or colour please let us know.
Once you have chosen your puppy from what is remaining, a deposit is asked to secure the pup, without this your puppy is still available to anyone else.
Puppies can only leave us at 8 weeks of age (a ruling of the SA Canine Association).
All puppies are sold on the limited register (pedigree) (mains with other arrangement)
We only charge a PET price whether you intend on showing the dog or not
or if your going to desex it.
If you are interested in purchasing an adult for breeding or showing their price
is by private treaty.
Main and Registered Pedigree information.
The only puppies that do go on the main register are those for breeding and showing. To have your puppy on the main register in South Australia, the dog MUST be co-owned with Trahern Kennels for a period of time and you MUST become a member of the South Australian Canine Association and the Bull Terrier Club of SA Inc as well. If you live interstate than we would appreciate if you would become a member of the Canine Association & the local Bull Terrier Club in your own state. Feel free to ask us about this.
We do NOT guarantee any of our puppies that go onto the main register will be show worthy, teeth correctly or will be able to have puppies or sire a litter in the future, or will pass all/or any of their hereditary disease testing. We as breeders also take the same chance when we run on our puppies.
Trahern Kennels can upgrade a limited registered pedigree - conditions apply.
Bull Terriers are a very unique breed, in that they change so much and what is great as a baby can turn out to be ordinary and what is ordinary might turn out to be the best. This doesn't take away from them as a loving family pet. We as breeders run the same risks as anyone else when we run on a puppy. All we can do is help guide to what in our opinion is a PROMISING puppy at the time. Of course mother nature will have her final say on the puppies outcome in looks.
If you live interstate transport must be organized and the cost of transporting the puppy is your responsibility. On average the cost is anything up to $200 extra and possibly more with recent airline changes. So be aware of that, and puppies within Australia can only leave at the 8 week of age bracket. We can help out with information on dog transporters.
DNA TESTING - In 2009 the CC's are looking at making dna testing compulsory. This ruling will only affect those who have been unethical with their kennel management. There has been a case of white to white producing a coloured,,,,,that was not a miracle but a visitor. In other words another dog mated that bitch. For example white to white will only produce WHITE and if a coloured is produced it should not be bred from. DNA test the whole litter cause there has 100% been a visitor.
The other beauty of DNA testing is we re now allowed to mate 2 sires to a dam, the DNA testing will reveal who the sire is for each puppy and the pedigrees will be registered correctly thanks to DNA. Sure a costly exercise to the breeder but DNA testing will now give the breeder the freedom to do these matings and keep the pedigrees TRUE and CORRECT.
I personally feel that the breeders should get together through their clubs and National Bull Terrier Council and put together a breeders information package for any new breeder. As we are getting alot of new comers into the breed and they have no proper knowledge and support on breeding dogs etc and what colours our breed should or should not produce. Knowledge is power. We want them to be taught about proper kennel management. We want those puppies out there running around to be who they're supposedly from. Cause we will get pet people wanting to breed on again with their pedigree Bull Terrier and we do not want a false pedigrees in our bloodlines.
